Afraid of what your team will say? (The truth about feedback)

Feedback.

It’s a word that gets a lot of attention. It can also create a lot of anxious feelings.

As a leader, my guess is - that you know intellectually that getting feedback from your team is important, but on a deeper level there are voices inside you that say -

→ What if what they say hurts to hear?

→ What will it mean if the feedback is bad?

→ What if I don’t agree?

→ What if they want things I can’t give them?

These thoughts stop a lot of leaders in their tracks - from getting below the surface to find out how their team is really feeling about their experience at work.

They do this so that they can avoid the feelings of - disappointment, defensiveness, anger, frustration - you name it.

But it’s important to see, that the feedback itself - can never make you feel any of those feelings.

What will make you feel those feelings - is what you make the feedback mean about YOU.

→ I’m not doing good enough.

→ People will think I’m not good at my job.

→ I’m failing as a leader.

→ I don’t know what to do next.

It’s these thoughts that cause the feelings you’re trying to avoid, not the feedback.

And so when we avoid GETTING the feedback, in order to save ourselves from the risk of feeling those emotions, what we do instead is…

〰️ allow issues to go unaddressed leading to a build up of resentment and inefficiencies

〰️ hide from our teams and show a persona, which makes our teams show up that way as well - never sharing too much, and keeping their cards close to their chest

〰️ not looking for opportunities or gaps that are holding the team back, but rather waiting for mistakes or failures to occur before putting your attention towards them

〰️ getting blindsided by a team member leaving, who seemed happy, but was harbouring a lot of frustrations that never got voiced

And so what do you end up creating?

A situation where:

→ You’re not doing good enough…

→ You’re not doing good at your job…

→ You fail as a leader…

→ You don’t know what to do next…

Your thoughts… come true.

This isn’t something to beat yourself up about, it’s simply taking a loving look at WHY you haven’t asked for the feedback and see what that decision actually creates for you.

In the Team Synergy Program, I make getting and acting on feedback easy - because I KNOW it can be tough to make that leap AND because I know the impact it will have on your team will be huge.

In the Team Synergy Program:

1. I do one-on-one interviews with each member of your team and report back what’s said in a Harvest Report so that their responses are anonymous. This is how you get the truth of what’s going on and create a safe space for both the team, and YOU, to process those responses.

2. I facilitate a workshop series that focuses on creating connections between the staff (including you) so that people get to know one another better, build trust, have fun, and start to appreciate one another for the work they do on the team. This is how we create an environment where feedback can happen more naturally and next steps can be more collaborative and solutions-focused.

3. I coach you, as the leader, privately, one-on-one. This is how you get the support you need to step into your own essence as a leader, to talk through what you’re struggling with, and be able to show up with your team in a way that is present, calm and focused and not in a way where you are afraid of opening up the can of worms.

The Team Synergy Program fully supports you and your team to look at what’s working and what’s not, and to co-create solutions together, through the process of relationship building.

And through that, you get to be a leader who is:

Doing an incredible job and know exactly what to do next.

Let me support you to do that. It is within your reach - and I promise the results will feel amazing.

And!

Don't forget about the [bonus] Mini Mindset Tune-Up - a limited time offer that includes THREE additional private 1-on-1 coaching sessions just for you, absolutely free, when you book the Team Synergy Program before January 31st, 2023.

This is truly the best time to invest in the Team Synergy Program - for your team, and for you.

There is freedom on the other side of feedback.

Let’s uncover it together
