Why your success is exhausting you (and how to let it delight you)

Congrats! Your company is growing, and more work than ever is coming through the door.

But instead of celebrating (after all this is what you’ve been working so hard for) you feel overwhelmed and scattered, thinking about how you’re going to put all this into action.

Especially with a team who is already in full swing.

You go to bed with your head spinning. You’re up on and off all night worrying about how your team will respond to more work coming in. You envision their faces. What they’re thinking. What they’ll say to one another.

You wake up exhausted.

So… this is what success feels like?

It doesn’t have to.

What if instead of accepting the default feeling of exhausted, you chose to feel something different?

What if you could choose to feel any emotion you desired – in this exact same scenario?

What if you chose to feel – in flow. (Okay I know that’s not an emotion, but it’s a ‘feeling’ I go to often).

If you were feeling ‘in flow’ when you started your day, what actions would you take from that place?

 If it were me –

👉 I’d treat myself to a coffee from my favourite café that morning.

👉 I’d take a moment to find calm and breathe.

👉 I’d hold a meeting with my senior team and celebrate the news. Celebrate each person on that team who is making it all happen. Maybe even pop some champagne.

👉 I’d engage them in how we can make it all work, and what needs to get dropped or changed.

👉 Together we’d tell the full team, with a plan for how to make it work, and then we’d celebrate each person on the team making it all happen.

👉 And then we’d go and kick some ass.

The only way I’d be able to have a day like that, is if I was feeling ‘in flow’. If I was feeling exhausted, my day would have looked very different – and it would have been a lot less fun.

When the work piles up – we feel like the feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, and stress are all valid and necessary. And maybe they are, at times.

But today – let me be your reminder, that you have a choice. You get to decide how you feel about your success. And how you choose to feel, will impact your day (and every day) and your team (everyone on it).

So ask yourself – do I want to work this hard, only to feel exhausted? OR do I want to choose, today, and as much as humanly possible, to choose to celebrate my hard work and the hard work of my team? To choose to feel in flow and pass that calm, determined, joyful energy onto the team, the work I do, and the clients I serve?

The choice is yours.
