Want to save yourself a lot of headaches? Read this.

In remote and hybrid workplaces, miscommunications and misunderstandings run rampant.

Without realizing it, we are managing a number of stories throughout our day about each of the people we work with based on what we’re assuming they are doing and thinking.

~ They’re not working hard enough.

~ What they said was rude.

~ How could they not have sent the report on time?

This is draining your energy - and is putting your brain’s focus on useless errands.

But this one piece of advice will save you from so many headaches. Are you ready for it?

Assume positive intent.

Instead of judging someone for something they’ve done, operate from the idea that they meant well or gave their best.

Instead of assuming malice or conspiracy, operate from the idea that there was a misunderstanding or that someone is in need of support.

Nobody wakes up in the morning and sets out to make things hard for you.

And in a remote and hybrid context, it is far too easy to attribute what somebody does or says to who they are as a person.

And when we do that - we cause ourselves headaches. And we deteriorate the relationships we have with the people we work with.

So just - quit it 🤣.

Next time you catch yourself swirling in negative thinking about a colleague, or steaming with frustration over something someone did - catch yourself -  assume positive intent - and decide your next steps from there instead.

I want to invite you to set up a free call with me to learn more about how I can help you take these stories swirling in your head about your team, and get really clear on what roadblocks are ACTUALLY holding your team back, and how best to solve for those.

We can’t solve problems from a place of assumption. And through my work with remote and hybrid teams, I can help you and your team move from a culture of assumptions and frustrations, to clarity and synergy.

Oh, and P.S.

The same goes for YOU.

Remember - that if you are being hard on others, or judging your team for certain things, it’s often because you are holding those same impossible standards for yourself. And living in a vibe of - not good enoughness.

Where are you not giving yourself the benefit of the doubt? Where are you not giving yourself the gift of assuming positive intent in how YOU are doing as a leader?

If you are beating yourself up…

If you are stressing that you are not being the leader you want to be…

If you are worrying that you are failing…

That you need to work harder…

That you need to do better…

That you haven’t quite figured out how to really make it all work…

Take a look at your intentions - and see that where you’re coming from is from a place of wanting to do your best and be there for others.

That intention is beautiful. And you can choose to honour and celebrate that in you, rather than beating yourself up about it.

I help leaders build this relationship with themselves through my 1-on-1 coaching practice.

If this resonates with you, set up a call. It doesn’t have to feel this hard. And you are doing WAY better than you think.
