Why the shift to remote work matters (and is worth getting right)

We are living in a time where we do not need people feeling more disconnected from one another.

We do not need people feeling alone, or isolated, or unsupported.

We do not need people stuck at a desk worrying about whether they are doing good enough, or whether anyone even knows or cares about who they are and what they contribute.

I think we know this - and so for a lot of people - the solution to ‘go back into an office’ to work is the gut response.

But what we also don’t need -

Is people being forced or told what to do by others who aren’t living in their shoes.

We don’t need people cattled into a status quo that is only accessible and inclusive to one kind of person, and one kind of work style.

We do not need people commuting in and out of cities in order to build social capital, leaving their families and freedoms behind.

Remote work for a lot of people seems like a step towards disconnection.

But for me - when it’s done right - it is a step toward building the world I want to see for the future of work.

Remote work actually shifts us into a culture that:

✔︎ Has to trust one another and build good relationships in order to be effective

✔︎ Emphasizes less control and telling people what to do, and more openness and adaptability based on the team and context you’re working in

✔︎ Allows for families to spend more time with one another and eliminates the hustle and rush of outsourcing childcare from the moment you rise to the last hours of the day

✔︎ Has us looking at our own limitations of actually ‘turning off’ and finding more balance in our days. Have you noticed that work/life balance is actually not that easy? It takes a lot of self-care, self-awareness and unwinding to let go of the traditional expectations of a workday and creating space for ourselves to rest and receive, rather than to produce for hours on end

✔︎ Invests more in our communities and in the people around us, rather than to a culture that lives purely within the walls of an office together

Remote culture isn’t feeling easy - because it requires a shift in how we think, how we manage and how we work with others.

And for me that shift is a good one.

Let me help you build that with your team.

There are two days left to take advantage of the Mini Mindset Tune-Up Bonus that you get for free when you sign your team up for the Team Synergy Program - a 3 step process that guides your team on a journey to build the remote team culture of your dreams.

This Tune-Up is focused on you, and the limitations you are feeling when it comes to managing a team remotely. This is some of the most important work we can do in order to create the space for new ways of thinking and new ways of working that will give you that freedom, that ease and that synergy to lead your team in a remote context.
